DerbyCross was conceived and developed by advanced level event riders, Rebecca Howard and Sinead Halpin, and Dana Vorhees, an avid amateur competitor and owner of Van Productions. This new equine sport combines the speed and accuracy of show jumping with the endurance of cross-country, showcased as a vivacious, crowd pleasing performance. The inaugural event took place in July of 2006 at Great Meadow Polo Club, in The Plains, Virginia. In 2010, DerbyCross joined with the Professional Riders Organization to create PRO DerbyCross. PRO DerbyCross made its debut in Wellington, Florida as a team competition at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center where it has run as a special competition for the last two seasons.
